Okomo Mary Blessing

In Kaberamaido, Uganda, Mary’s future once seemed uncertain. Born with a disability, she faced rejection from schools that saw only her limitations instead of her potential. But AsOne saw something different—a child with the ability to learn, grow, and thrive.

"Before AsOne came, many schools refused to accept Mary because of her disability," says Esborn Ekonu, Community Director of Kaberamaido. "But AsOne believed in her and gave her a chance."

That chance became a turning point. At AsOne Nursery & Primary School, Mary didn’t just receive an education—she found a place where she was seen, valued, and supported. Her teachers met her where she was, helping her learn English and gain confidence. At first, even her mother wondered if she would be able to keep up. But with time, Mary not only excelled academically but also discovered new joys—learning to sing, dance, and fully engage with her peers.

Today, Mary’s future is no longer defined by limitations but by possibilities. "I see Mary becoming an important person in the future," Esborn affirms. And Mary already knows what she wants: to become a nurse, using her own journey to bring hope and healing to others.

Because of your investment in AsOne, Mary’s story is no longer one of struggle—it’s a testament to hope, resilience, and a future filled with promise.
