Mothers make the world go ‘round
Today we celebrate mothers! And to celebrate them we want to share the stories of three mothers in Uganda who have been impacted by work you are helping make possible.
Edisa
Meet Edisa, the mother to seven children. Her daughter Irene is in Senior 2 (9th grade) at AsOne High School. AsOne became part of Edisa and her family’s life through the connection of her neighbor, who is the Bursar at AsOne High School. Edisa has seen the impact AsOne is having on Irene as she has noticed a positive change in Irene’s character since she started attending AsOne High School. She has also seen Irene’s school performance improve, and she is proud of the way her daughter values her education.
Irene appreciates the way she can meet one on one with AsOne teachers when she is not understanding certain concepts. Not only has AsOne impacted Irene through her education, but Edisa has been part of AsOne’s farmer training program which has advised her on ways she can increase the productivity of her crops and livestock in a sustainable way.
Immaculate
Next is Immaculate. Immaculate is one of the cooks in Namayemba at our Headquarters & Health Centre, but before she had that position she helped launch the AsOne Bakery in 2018. As she was looking for a job, she learned about AsOne through a pastor at a local church. Immaculate has four children and twelve grandchildren. Five of her grandchildren live with her, and because of her job at AsOne she is able to care for herself and help her grandchildren by paying their school fees and treating them when they’re sick. Immaculate reflected on the fact she grew up without a mother, and she doesn’t know who her mother is. She was reminded by one of the AsOne staff that she isn’t alone…she has a family within the AsOne team, and they are all proud of what she is doing.
Peruth
Finally, we want you to meet Peruth. Peruth is the mother to twelve children, and two of her children, Trevor & Tracy, go to Idudi AsOne Nursery and Primary School. After her husband passed away, Peruth and her family moved to Idudi. A teacher from the AsOne School was living near Peruth and told her about the school. Since Peruth and her children were already living near AsOne’s school, Peruth decided to admit Trevor to AsOne. When she saw how his performance was pleasing, she also had Tracy join. Peruth is proud of the way she has seen both of her children’s performance improve since they started attending the AsOne School. Because of the great work she has seen the teachers at Idudi Nursery & Primary School doing she is going to send another one of her children there. Peruth’s desire for her children is to see them succeed.
